Although companies pay VAT differences according to their sales profits, it is basically a tax paid by the end user. In other words, whoever consumes or uses the product last pays VAT.VAT Rates Applied in TurkeyAlthough there are various differences in almost every country, there are VAT practices. In our country, 3 types of VAT rates are applied as 1%, 8% and 18% according to the necessity of the product. How is VAT Calculated in 2022?VAT calculation is made in 2 ways, including VAT and excluding VAT. VAT-included calculation is basically done with the formula "product price excluding VAT × (1+VAT rate)", and VAT excluded calculation is done with the formula "price of the product including VAT ÷ (1+VAT)".How is VAT Excluding Calculation Made?VAT excluded calculation is basically calculated with the formula "Price of the product including VAT ÷ (1+VAT)". In other words, it is sufficient to divide the multiplication in the VAT included formula. For example, in a situation where the VAT included price of the product is 1.180 TL and the VAT rate applied to the product is 18%, the price of the product would be 1.180 TL/(1+0.18) = 1.180 TL/1.18= 1.000 TL VAT excluded.VAT Calculation Rounding DifferenceIn accounting transactions, only two numbers are used after the decimal point. This is because the 3rd digit after the comma has no place in our currency. The rounding rules for the 3rd digit after the comma are as follows:- If the 3rd digit after the comma is greater than 5, it is rounded up. For example, 5.586 is rounded to 5.59.- If the 3rd digit after the comma is less than 5, it is rounded down. For example, 5.584 is rounded to 5.58.- If the 3rd digit after the comma is 5, it is rounded to the nearest even number. For example, 8 is the closest even number to 5.585, so it is rounded down to 8. In this rule, zero counts as an even number. However, this rule does not apply to most computer programs. For example, it will round 5 upwards unless you specify a special rule in Excel. (It is a recommended method, especially in companies that make a lot of invoice transactions during the month, in order not to have a large rounding difference.)VAT Rates Applied on Products:As we mentioned at the beginning of our article, there are 3 types of VAT rates applied in our country, 1%, 8% and 18%.
